1. To accumulate points toward DVHA
year-end awards, all horses/ponies (owned or leased by the DVHA member)
must be registered annually. The lifetime nomination fee for all
horses/ponies is $15.00 (see DVHA Constitution, Membership A.1.a.(4).
2. Year-end points will accumulate upon acceptance of a member’s
registration and/or horse registration by the Membership Secretary OR
the Show Secretary of the day. If the membership or horse application is
presented on the day of a show, it must be accepted before the member
enters any classes for the day. Points will not count on the day of the
show if the membership or horse registration is accepted at the end of
the show day after the rider has competed in any classes.
3. In equitation or horsemanship classes (Hunter/Western), points are
awarded to the rider. The rider must be a DVHA member in good standing
and the horse must be registered. The rider in an equitation or
horsemanship class must be an amateur unless specified in class specs.
4. In performance classes (Hunter/Western/Jumper), points are awarded to
the horse. The rider must be a DVHA member in good standing and the
horse must be registered.
5. In dressage classes, points are awarded to the horse/rider
combination. The rider must be a DVHA member in good standing and the
horse must be registered.
6. Trophies will be given for year-end championship and reserve
championship awards. Year-end trophies will be presented only if a
division has filled three or more times during the season.
7. Year-end ribbons will be given for championship, reserve
championship, third, fourth, fifth and sixth places. In case of ties,
the next lower award or awards will not be made.
8. For champion and reserve champion ONLY, if a rider/horse did
not compete in at least three shows during the season, the winner will
only receive a ribbon.
PERPETUAL AND SPECIAL YEAR-END AWARDS
1. The following perpetual awards are to be presented annually at the
banquet:
(a) The LUISE GALLICHO MEMORIAL TROPHY for up and
coming riders is presented to young riders in each division (if
eligible) seriously striving to improve but who have just begun to
achieve.
(b) The WELLING. C. HOWELL V.M.D. FOUNDERS AWARD
presented to a member or family outstanding in terms of service.
(c) The JUDITH E. STRATTON VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
AWARD presented a member whose contribution to DVHA goes above and
beyond all work hours by sheer volume, steering the vision of DVHA,
overall talent which uniquely benefits the association, and individual
devotion beyond measure.
2. The following annual awards are to be presented annually at the
banquet:
(a) The RAY BASTEDO MEMORIAL AWARD – Junior Western
Equitation year-end championship sponsored by DVHA.
(b) The HOWELL MEDAL is to be awarded to the Hunter Junior
Equitation year-end champion in the Welling C. Howell, V.M.D. Medal
Class.
(c) The RAY MASON MEMORIAL TROPHY presented to the
winner of the Adult Western Horsemanship Division sponsored by DVHA.
3. Special awards which MAY be presented annually are:
(a) EXCEPTIONAL EFFORT AWARD presented to a rider who
shows enthusiastically, wins few ribbons but continues to show good
sportsmanship.
(b) OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD presented to a
rider whose achievements at all DVHA shows during the show season have
been truly outstanding.
(c) THE VAN DYKE MANNERS MEMORIAL TROPHY presented by
the Hopewell American Legion to an outstanding member of DVHA.
(d) THE GOOD SPORTSMAN AWARDS presented to members in
each division (if eligible) who exemplify good sportsmanship, wholesome
attitude, willingness to help, and who are a joy to have around. The
Hunter/Jumper trophy is in memory of Kenneth K. Manners, and the Western
Trophy is in memory of Robert Manners.
(e) OUTSTANDING ADULT BEGINNER RIDER presented to a
mature member who has only recently begin to ride or to show.
(f) OLD CAMPAIGNER AWARD presented to horses
that have been showing at DVHA for at least ten years and have proven to
be reliable and able to go “on and on”.
(g) DVHA ‘HALL OF FAME’ presented to a past
or present DVHA member who has achieved national or international
recognition in the equine world.
(h) EDGAR HOTZ MEMORIAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE
presented to recognize excellence in a DVHA member by character traits
of dependability, integrity, enthusiasm, and by a demonstrated knowledge
in his/her chosen area of participation in DVHA.
(i) DVHA HORSE OF THE YEAR presented to a horse
that has competed in 3 or more disciplines including: (1) Hunter/
Equitation/Youth, (2) Jumper, (3) Western, (4) Dressage, (5) Draft and
(6) Driving.
3. Other special awards may be sponsored by groups and/or individuals
provided approval is granted by the membership.
